Medication In Pregnancy

Over the counter medications are temporary solutions. If signs and symptoms persist beyond 2-3 days or worsen, you need to contact the midwife to discuss.

Approved Medications

  • Heartburn – Zantac/Pepcid/Tums as directed.
  • Nausea – Vitamin B6 or a B Complex.
  • Gas – Milicon/Gas X.
  • Headache and other aches – Tylenol up to 1000mg every 4 hours but discuss with midwife if you think you need more than twice in one day.
  • Acne – over the counter products are ok including Proactive.
  • Vaginal Itching – need to consult office.
  • Cough/Cold – Tylenol Cold and Sinus or generic equivalent, Robitussin Cough Suppressant (no nighttime formulas) vaporizers and cough drops.

Do Not Take

  • Ibuprofen
  • Aspirin
  • Pepto Bismol
  • Nighttime Cough Syrup – alcohol content
  • Excedrin Migraine
